I believe that this is the same small creek that feeds Sempervirens Falls as shown in some of our other pictures. I just love the creek at this point … all those little ponds that the water has carved out of the solid rock is real interesting.

The Big Basin Redwoods State Park offers some very nice camping and hiking in the Northern / Central California Coastal Mountain Range. The park is west of San Jose and North-East of Santa Cruz.
One of the greatest reasons we love going to Patrick’s Point is because of the foliage. The campsites are very lush and many are overflowing with plant life. This is the campsite we stayed in on our very first trip to the campground.

Certain parts of the first Jurassic Park movie were filed here. We were actually camping here when they filmed the part of the movie where they air-lifted the army vehicles in by helicopter. I believe they also filmed the scene where they are riding through the open field in a jeep among the dinosaurs … in addition to the part where the research trailer is falling over the cliff.

The picture was taken in the Patrick’s Point State campground on the Northern California Coast. I believe we snapped this picture around 1996 / 97 when we were on our Summer camping trip.

Below is another picture of the campsite. This one is looking in from the campground road.

This is a picture of beautiful Agate Beach. The picture was taken at the little lookout at the top of the trail-head inside the Patrick’s Point State campground on the Northern California Coast. I believe we snapped this picture around 1996 / 97 when we were on our Summer camping trip.

In the lower corner of this picture you can see the sand cloud in the waters. That is where most of the agates, quartz, jaspers, and sometimes California jade can be found on the beach. The ocean tides slowly move the gemstones around the crescent … polishing them … and they end up where the sand cloud is.

My wife and I used to go camping at Patrick’s Point annually until we moved too far away in 2001. Rockhounding is great on the beach as there are some beautiful agates and quartz that have been polished by the waves. We used to sit down there for hours looking for interesting stones.

When I was a kid my parents brought to this location a few times and I always had a blast. The “sand cliff” shown in the picture used to have a cave carved in it about 75 to 100 feet up. I used to love going in that cave !
