ATC: Eyes and Loops (2009)
By LohmanTrading
ATC: Eyes and Loops (2009)

This is a beautiful ATC that Kimmi ( Lohman Trading ) made for me in April, 2009.

This one is all mine … so it is staying in the house. It’s not going anywhere. :P

The foundation of this card is 140 lb. canvas paper that Kimmi handpainted with acrylics and then textured. I simply love the painting on this card as it looks just like petrified wood … browns, greys, and a small touch of pink and metallic bronze.

From there the retro style image ( from art chix ) was added in addition to a recycled “love” postage stamp, a hand-torn heart, flowers, and a metal star. In the lower left section she also added some scraps that she “reclaimed” from a paper dollie.

The name “Eyes and Loops” comes from the tiny writing behind the scrap that covers the lady’s forehead.

As a side note, if you like the background used on this ATC, Kim has sets of these handpainted and textured backgrounds available for sale in our ETSY Store.

As always, feel free to leave a comment or question for the artist. ;-)

Enjoy,

Chris ~~ Lohman Trading

Craft Tip: Go Green With Buttons
By LohmanTrading

postimage_buttonsBrads and eyelets make for some great embellishments for cards, ATC’s, ACEO’s, scrapbook pages, and many other crafts, but sometimes it’s nice to spend no money (or very little) on embellishments while also “recycling”.

Buttons from old shirts, jackets, and pants can make fantastic and unique embellishments. Some of the vintage buttons can add style to your project that you just cannot get from a mass-produced brad or eyelet. The best part … many of us probably already have a drawer full of stray buttons that could easily be used for embellishments. If you don’t, you can usually find boxes full of buttons at yard sales or at your local thrift store.

Attach the button(s) to your craft project using double sided tape, glue, or simply sew it to the paper. Personally, I would go for the sewing as I believe it adds extra uniqueness and style to the project. Use cardstock for your project if you are going to sew as it will be less likely to tear.

Enjoy,

Scrapbooking Video: Die Cutting Photos
By LohmanTrading

I found this nice video on YouTube that I thought I would share with everyone. It talks about making border and flourish stencils at home from designs found in magazines, newspapers and even on cereal boxes. You can then use those stencils in a variety of ways. You can use an inkpad, pens, pencils and the like to transfer the image to paper, or you can use the stencil to creat cut-outs on such items as photos.

Check out the video … it might give you some great ideas.

Selling Tip: Using Invoices
By LohmanTrading

We have purchased many items on eBay, ArtFire, and Etsy and it still astounds me how many sellers do not include an invoice with the order. This is a very cheap medium for advertising your store / auctions, let alone a presenting a more “professional” image.

Here is what our current invoice sheet looks like. We offer a slightly colorful invoice that includes our store URL twice (blurred on the sample for board posting policies), information about customer service, a tag line, and slight description of our product line.

Just about any graphics / word processing program can be used to create these. Personally, we use Print Shop Pro and Corel Photo Paint.

We print these before-hand and then print the invoice information (at the link below) over the top.

On eBay … From Selling Manager (free with a basic store) you can print invoices and packing slips by clicking on “Items Awaiting Shipping”, checking the boxes next to the orders, and clicking “Print”. Easy directions appear after that.

We usually print 2 copies of each order. One on the color invoice for the customers order and then one basic invoice to keep for our records. Keeping an invoice for your records will help quite a bit when it comes tax time.

I believe that these invoices that promote the store (in addition to other things) help us continually receive a 35% to 50% return customer rate.

Hope this gives you some ideas …..

News From ArtFire
By LohmanTrading

postingimages_artfireWe’ve got some news to share about ArtFire

* Interview - Tony from ArtFire just gave an interview to ByHand.me There is some rather interesting information available in the interview. If you would like to learn what ArtFire is up to currently, check out the interview. If you do not know anything about ArtFire, but would like to learn, this interview would be great for you.

* Featured Studio Ads - A couple of weeks ago ArtFire introduced on-site advertising. Sellers are now able to purchase ad space in the side column of categories. The big news here is that they are running a 1/2 off sale for a limited time on all ads. For interested sellers, simply visit your “My ArtFire” and click on “FEATURED STUDIO SPOTS” under promotion in the left column.

We purchased a featured ad almost a week ago to see how the response would be. I will try to post the results as a comment to this article when the ad is done running. (I believe there are about 5 days left)

Blessings,

Chris ~~ Lohman Trading

Greeting Card: What Time Is It ?
By LohmanTrading
Greeting Card: What Time Is It ?

Here’s a nice greeting card that Kimmi ( Lohman Trading ) stamped in 2004 …

It seems that most rubber stamps and crafts made from them are somewhat feminine oriented, so I thought this would be a great time to post a masculine greeting card made with rubber stamps. I believe Kimmi gave this to her father for either his birthday or Father’s Day.

What Time Is It ?. This is a nice greeting card that doesn’t take too much time to make.

One of the very best clock and watch parts stamp sets to use for this type of card is the 17 stamp “It’s About Time” Rubber Stamp Set.

Kimmi started with a flat white card-stock greeting card. From there she added the tan card-stock to the front and then the Victorian green and deep red card-stock squares to the top of the tan card stock. She then stamped the words directly to the tan card-stock using an alphabet rubber stamp set. The watches and clocks were stamped on to white card-stock, cut out, and attached to the greeting card.

Next time you have a little spare time, why not stamp some greeting cards !

Enjoy !

Yellow Joy Flowers ATC - (2009)
By LohmanTrading
Yellow Joy Flowers ATC - (2009)

This is Kimmi’s ( Lohman Trading ) most recent ATC from February, 2009. She made these for an ATC swap from one of her lists. The flower and leaf images were stamped from a Posh rubber stamp set using Brilliance Dew Drop Ink Pads. The edge of the card and also the tips of the flowers have been “distressed” with Brilliance Inks in the offset color of orange. The foundation of this project was simple white cardstock cut to the 2 1/2″ (x) 3 1/2″ size.

Enjoy,

Black and White Bird Greeting Card
By LohmanTrading
Black and White Bird Greeting Card

This is a greeting card that Kimmi ( Lohman Trading ) handmade in 2009 for a Black and white swap that she was in.

She utilized the simple design to emphasize the black-n-white theme of the swap. Materials used were black cardstock, white cardstock, and a black and white flower ribbon. The stamped bird image is from Inkadinkado Rubber Stamp Set - Birds Galore.

Blessings,

Chris ~~ Lohman Trading
